catastrophic failure of the tester circuit: short-circuit current is
limited until interruption by the fuse, rated for up to 10 kA.

*If voltage is applied to the test leads while in the resistance measurement mode, as
long as it is within the measurement category (CAT III 600 V, or CAT II 1000 V),
protective components in the tester circuitry prevent the fuse from opening.
