ABOUT
Dark Twin is from an album of works for solo pianist performing against his or herself. In this case a single, monolithic gesture – a rapid mechanical tremolo
between the hands – is shadowed and extended by a gradually distending pre-recorded part. The tuning bends and warps against a growing noise floor.
It was written for Zubin Kanga and premiered at the Melbourne Recital Centre in May 2015 within the Metropolis Festival. It lasts approximately 15’00.
PERFORMANCE NOTES
Dark Twin is an abbreviated score. The solo piano part maintains a strict measured tremolo between the two hands, always left hand to right. The bracketed
notes indicate a slow transition between notes. Add the bracketed notes gradually, swelling from pianissimo to full volume.
The live part is to match the exact tempo of the soundtrack following the click track provided.
