The Irish Dawgs had a very difficult first season as a result of many
things not going quite as planned. Ian Desmond went from perennial
stud to very questionable start. Adam Wainwright made 4 starts all
year. Robinson Cano forgot how to hit in the first half. Pair some
additional player synopsis with a similar story line and a complete lack
of any 2015 upside plays turning up roses, and you have an 8th place
season.

2016 currently projects to be another trying year in the Win/Loss
column for the Dawgs with near bottom ranks for both their offensive
attack and their pitching staff.
All is not lost for the elder statesman of the league as there still is a
respectable young core of talent here waiting to be built around
(Freeman, Polanco, Perez, Cutch). The even better news is that Ron
committed to the rebuild in the draft, taking high upside young player
one after another speckling in a couple of valuable veterans for the
near term.
As a result, Ron now boasts arguably the deepest prospect pipeline of
any team in the league including players that are both close to the
majors and high potential impact (Glasnow, Bell, Swanson). Glasnow,
in particular, is the crown jewel of the system to me as I see him
becoming the next great young pitcher with dominant stuff and
resulting fantasy relevance.
I think that the 2016 goal should be a year of additional turnover for
the roster, infusing more upside, shedding age (VMart, Wainwright)
and low impact veterans (Markakis, Hughes). Grabbing some of the
hotter non-contract players and flipping them at the deadline for
future assets should also be a focus.
In summary, ID fans should be rooting for a good development year
for the in-house prospects leading to a 2017 draft class laden with
more impact talent. If that sequence can come together, I think you
could start to see the light at the end of the tunnel towards
competing for a playoff spot.
