Kayak Pulley Storage Hoist System
The following instruction details how to install a pulley-based kayak storage and
hoist system using items found at most local hardware stores for less than $35
Materials List
1. (4) 30lb Rope Pulleys
2. (2) Locking Carabiners
3. (3) General use carabiners
4. (4) 1/4 20 nut bolt and washer setups (nut, 2” bolt, 2 washers, lock washer)
5. 30-50’ length 1/4” diameter nylon rope
6. Dock Cleat
7. Eye Bolt
Tools
1. Drill with 1/4 wood bit
2. 7/16” socket / wrench
3. Drill with phillips bit
4. Ladder
5. Measuring Tape
6. Scissors or utility knife
Kayak Pulley Storage Hoist System
Steps
Use the diagram #1 on page 2 to measure and mark the placement of the 3 rope
pulleys and the placement of the eye bolt
Use the drill with .250” wood bit to drill through the ceiling joists
Attach the rope pulleys and eye bolt using the wrenches
Use the diagram #1 on page 2 to thread the rope through the pulleys. You will add
the free floating pulley after threading the 1st pulley, then thread the remaining.
Use diagram #2 to connect the two locking carabiners to the rope and pulley.
Cut a 12-24” piece of rope and connect 2 general use carabiners using the improved
clinch knot
Connect the final general use carabiner to the front locking pulley.
Use the drill with phillips bit to install the dock cleat as shown in diagram #2
Connect the general use carabiners to the handles of the kayak.
Pull on the rope, gradually assisting the kayak until it is fully lifted to the ceiling as
shown in diagram #3
Attach the rope to the dock cleat using a zig-zag wrap around pattern.
Cut excess rope being careful to leave enough so that the kayak will reach the
ground
