HISTORY OF THE GHANA EBENEZER METHODIST CHURCH
The idea of a Ghana Methodist church in Charlotte surface upon the arrival of the Gyamf’s in September 13, 1999.
On May 12,2002, the Ghana Community Methodist Fellowship was started in an apartment of the Gyamfi’s after consultation with the
following brethren Mr. & Mrs. Gyamfi and Children; Mr. & Mrs. Bonsra and Children; Sis Nana Yaa; Mad Comfort Antwi and Bro Thomas
Frimpong (Teacher/leader). The group was meeting every Sunday morning from 11: 00am -1:00pm
Somewhere in July02,the now Rev Aduku of N.J got us to contact the Late (Rev Dr Albert Quaninoo R.I.P) Methodist Minister in Atlanta (GA)
who readily opens his heart and hands to help us. After back and forth Communication, Rev Dr Quaninoo and the following; Brethren, Bro.
Augustine Kwarteng; Sis Akosua-Mercy Obiri; Mrs Victoria Quaninoo and Sis Sussana Amankwaa visited us on August11, 2002.
The fellowship grew in size, numerically and spiritually that we could not contain our self in the Gyamfi’s apartment. The late Rev Dr
Quaninoo was informed of our situation and he promise to come down to Charlotte to look for a bigger place for us. The fellowship while in
waiting on the late Rev Dr Quaninoo to come over to Macedonia and help, did not rest on our oars, but continue to preach the Ghana
Methodism in our part of the world.
On October 13, 2002, we (Ghana Community Methodist Fellowship) welcome into our fold the now Rev & Mrs. Boakye-Yiadom and family
who were worshipping with BIG SPRING UNITED METHODIST CHURCH. The Fellowship continues to take on others despite our constraints
with the hope of bigger place one day. On October 27.Rev Boakye -Yiadom floated a suggestion to contact the leaders of BIG SPRING
UNITED METHODIST CHURCH if they could be of help to us. He came back on November 3, 2002 with what we thought was a good news,
so we immediately informed Rev Dr Quaninoo of blessed memory of the developments here in Charlotte North Carolina, and the Rev Dr
Quaninoo promised to be present when we moved to newly found place of worship. We finally moved from the GYAMFI’s apartment to BIG
SPRING UNITED METHODIST CHURCH BUILDING on November 10, 2002, but not without resistance from some members.
Come November 27, 2002 the now Rev Boakye-Yiadom suggested the Church join THE UNITED METHODIST cluster of Churches with a
name ‘GHANA MISSION UNITED METHODIST CHURCH’. He did face opposition from the Gyamfi’s.
Finally, the Gyamfi’s broke off from the United Methodist Church on February 08, 2009 and started a new fellowship in their private
residence on March 22, 2009. This first meeting was attended by Bro, Akwasi, Sis.Doris, Hillary and William Gyamfi. Later our members
grew to about twelve (12). Bro. Joseph and Sis. Karen Essiful-Ansah, invited the Gyamfi’s to attend ‘THE METHODIST CHURCH GHANA;
NORTH AMERICA MISSION’ First Annual General Meeting in Atlanta GA on April 24-26,2009 as Observers, there, we had the chance to
present our petition to the Rev; Ministers and the Lay Movement council and was approved and place under ATLANTA Circuit. Our Society
is known as ‘GHANA EBENEZER METHODIST CHURCH, CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA’ and it’s registered with Mecklenburg County in the
city of Charlotte, the internal Revenue Service and is fully insured by Church Mutual of Merrill, WI.
With prayers to the HIGH MOST and the Standing Committee’s financial support, we secured a place of worship within Northlake Assembly
of God building on 2632 Sunset Road in Charlotte, NC. The maiden service of our society under THE METHODIST CHURCH GHANA; NORTH
AMERICA MISSION was on June 7, 2009 with the following Brethern; Bro Akwasi and Sis Doris Gyamfi and Children;Bro Kwadwo and Sis
Hannah Bonsra and Children;Bro Edward and May Nkrumah;Sis Grace and daugthers,Rebecca and Abigail Boakye. Our society, GHANA
EBENEZER METHODIST CHURCH CHARLOTTE NC was finally inaugurated on August 2nd, 2009 by Very Rev Kofi Bart-Martin and others
from the Mission’s Headquarters in Rockville,Maryland. This was after members had gone through two weeks of fasting and prayers with
Rev Charles Fiifi Acquah of Providence, Rhode Island, who also became our first appointed Minister.
By God’s grace, we are also the brain behind ‘GHANA CALVARY METHODIST CHURCH’ in GREENSBORO, NORTH CAROLINA.
This is our story; this is our song and testimony in praise of God. We know whom we have believed; He is God Immanuel, who is with us
and will help continue to sing our
EBENEZER!!!
