ith the goal of
reinforcing the
skills
and
knowledge of its resident
members, the Order of
Asclepius organized a twoin-one seminar entitled
“The
Basics
of
Prescription Writing, and
History
Taking
&
Physical Examination: A
Crash Course”, last April
13, 2016 at Roxas Hall.
Former dean and
honorary member, Dr.
Myrna Abello discussed the
basics of writing a medical
prescription which focused
in the proper way of

important parts of it.
On the other hand,
history taking and physical
examination was discussed
by Mateo III Te, the batch
leader of Batch 36. He
lectured on how to master
the skill by giving tips and
examples on how to elicit
and perform it correctly.
The seminar was
conducted in preparation for
the upcoming series of
medical and surgical
missions this summer. It was
attended by members of
Batch 39, Batch 38 and
Raymond Quiambao of Batch
36.#

ast April 16 and 17, the Order of
Asclepius took part in a Surgical
Mission at Lambunao, Iloilo and
a Dental and Surgical Mission at San
Rafael, Iloilo respectively.
Surgical Mission at Lambunao,
Iloilo
A total of 64 boys aged 8 to 16
years old benefitted from the
circumcision drive activity sponsored
by the Order of Asclepius and the
Operating Room Nurses Association of
the Philippines- Iloilo Chapter. The
event was spearheaded by Dr. Diana
May Baclay-Laraya (OA Batch 29) and
Dr. Michael Castaños (OA Batch 25).

There were four barangays covered in the said activity
which include: Bonbon, Manaulan, Tranghawan, and Tuburan.
Aside from the post-operative medicines, the parents of the
circumcised children were also given health care education for
proper wound care of the surgical site.
The supplies used during the activity were from the
donations of the following generous individuals: Dr. Alex
Guevarra (Charter Member), Dr. Giovanni de los Reyes (Charter
Member), Dr. Evangeline Cua (WVSU-COM Batch 2000), and Dr.
Dyna Cardiel (OA Batch 29). The Order was represented by 18
resident members from Batch 38 and 39.
Dental & Surgical Mission at San Rafael
The heat did not stop the Order of Asclepius from taking
part in the annual Dental-Surgical Mission spearheaded by the
Manus Redimentes Dei 2017 & BSN III Extension of St. Paul
University Iloilo-College of Nursing with the theme
“Pangkalusugang Aksyon Ngayong Bakasyon” held at San Rafael
National High School.
A total of 160 boys aged 8 to 15 years old were
circumcised by the resident members of the Order together with
volunteer doctors from St. Paul’s Hospital, The Medical CityIloilo, and WVSU-MC.
Roshiel May Bondoc, a student nurse of SPUI-College of
Nursing, who also assisted in the activity said, “It was a great
opportunity and experience for us to assist in circumcising little
boys. We appreciate the efforts of the Order of Asclepius for
rendering their service and for continuing its partnership with our
school”.
Dr. Venerio Gastaya Jr. of Batch 17 was present in the
event. Resident members that participated in the circumcision
drive were Mark Emmanuelle Balag (Batch 37), Marielle Karina
Barredo, Therese Angela Benite, Louise Cecille Del Rosario,
Charles Jebb Juanitas (Batch 38), Roger John Astrolabio, John
Romeo Dominick Diño and Ricky Jaleco (Batch 39).#

To date, there are a total of 367 individuals who benefitted
the circumcision drive since its kick-off.
