Welcome to the Oracle REST Data Services Hands-On
Labs!
Next week you have the opportunity to spend 1-2 hours with the Oracle product team learning
how to REST enable your Oracle Database via Oracle REST Data Services. We also have a lab
showing how to secure your RESTful services and REST enabled objects with 3rd party OATH
authentication.
Sounds complicated, but it’s not!
Here’s what you need to do to get ready BEFORE you show up for class.
Bring your computer. It can be a Mac. It can be Windows. Or it can be a Linux Desktop – it
doesn’t matter.
You have two options from this point:
1. Download and install VirtualBox and our Database Development Days VirtualBox
Appliance (6+ GB) OR
2. Download a VNC client
Option One
At the end of the lab, you’ll leave WITH the lab. You’ll have a database running on an Oracle
Linux virtual machine to do anything you want with. It’s completely free. We recommend your
laptop has at least 1 GB (better if 2!) of unused memory to run the virtual machine.

Download and install VirtualBox
Download and import the Appliance
Step by Step Instructions

Option Two
At the end of the lab, you’ll leave with what you learned. You’ll be using a browser based VPN
to get onto our hosted network, and you’ll remote into a machine to run the labs. The VPN is
Java based, so you’ll need privs to install software on your machine – but it’s MUCH smaller
than the VirtualBox appliance. We also recommend you install UltraVNC Viewer or an
equivalent.
For questions in advance, please feel free to email Jeff smith at jeff.d.smith@oracle.com
Do not wait to do Option One at the Conference Hotel.
