AN INDEPENDENT VOICE FOR SOUTHEND WEST
– They’re “downgrading” Southend Hospital: ambulances which previously
would have rushed to Southend A&E will soon be driving all the way to
Basildon instead. Basildon Hospital regularly gets overloaded as things are:
can we be confident that when ambulances from across Southend and
Chelmsford are heading there too, the hospital won’t be on Black Alert every
day? We should be upgrading our health services not downgrading them.
– Zero-hour contracts, smash the unions, foodbanks, fracking, trickle-up
economics: when the Tories formed their Government in 2015, the first thing
they tried (& failed) to do was bring back fox-hunting. Soon they’ll be trying
again. Needlessly killing animals is an urgent priority for some.
– The Left and the Right are equally dangerous and equally necessary. The
healthiest societies have a capitalist economy but a higher rate of socialist
taxation because there is such a thing as society: the Conservatives have
sold themselves as being the Party of lower taxes, but what’s the point of
having an extra coin in your pocket if kids are going to substandard schools &
foreign companies are profiting off our railways?
– Cut police funds, get more crime. At the same time, society continues to
waste dwindling police-resources persecuting people who consume cannabis.
Imagine a sensible income-generating drugs policy, it’s easy if you try.
– No more roads, no more road-widening: our air-pollution levels are
criminally poor already. We need new affordable houses though and there’s
only so much space: but Southend Council is planning to demolish high-rise
flats instead of learning from past mistakes and improving them.
– The world is getting hotter: we can pretend that’s not a problem, but
only for so long. If current trends continue, most of South East Essex could be
underwater within this century. Renewable energy sources are the future if
we expect to have much of a future.
– Early last year, a consortium of Southend’s businesses called on all
candidates in local-elections to oppose corporate proposals for an out-of-town
retail-complex. The traders knew that this would be damaging to them,
perhaps lethal. And yet representatives of the other political parties lined up
to support these destructive plans. Only Green Independent Jason Pilley
condemned this scheme and stood up for the area’s interests.
– In 2016 Conservatives voted to cut disability benefits by £30 a week. Nice.
Green Independents support a Citizen’s Income for everyone.
