Church Retail/Facilities Officer
An opportunity to join a lively team in an important historic building.
Great St Mary’s is open every day for visits and community activities. It is at
the centre of the city and is a major tourist destination with over 300,000
visitors a year. We have a tower offering panoramic views of Cambridge, a gift
shop and brass rubbing activities.
The Church Facilities Officer works as part of a team providing a welcome to
visitors, widely marketing the gift shop, tower and brass rubbing activities, and
care of the building.
The job includes:

Marketing the gift shop, tower and tours, and brass rubbing activities
Deputising for the Facilities Manager.
Answering queries and welcoming visitors
Acting as steward for concerts and other events
Locking and unlocking, and general security
Helping to arrange facilities for services
Hours are 22 hours a week. Salary is £9,520 pro rata of £15,800 pa under
review. The post is for 11 months in the first instance.
The Church Facilities Officer works three days a week, including alternate
Saturdays. There is also the possibility of stewarding at evening concerts.
The Facilities Manager, full time, leads the team.
There are also staff in the shop, which is open every day; a Church Operations
Manager and Parish Secretary; a Heritage Education Officer; as well as clergy
and music staff.
It is a busy church, with a warm and supportive staff team, a wide range of
activities, and involvement in the life of the city centre.
We are looking for retail experience to help market our attractive gift shop,
tower and brass rubbing facilities, as well as an outgoing personality and good
organisational ability. Great St Mary’s is never dull or boring. You’ll enjoy the
unique location and range of activities.
