BEWARE OF WHAT YOU BUY ON THE
INTERNET!
Jan Smirnow had recently spoke with John Collins of
White's Metal Detectors and he cautioned that the Chinese
are making metal detectors that are almost exact replicas
of Garrett, etc. White's was being copied, but they were
able outfoxed the fake maker. Anyway he cautioned to
those who are buying on on Ebay and Craigslist to be
really careful. The equipment the Chinese are making is
cheaply done and the prices are inflated, in other words
you may not get what you pay for on the internet!
Gem and Mineral Show
Our club has been invited to have a free table at the
Gem and Mineral Show on November 22 and 23. Jan
Smirnow will have a sign up sheet for volunteers for 2
hour blocks. You will get free admission to the show.
More details to follow.
AUGUST MEETING
27 members attended our Ice Cream Social Meeting on
August 14th. Members had the option of making a Root
beer, Pepsi, Orange or 7up float or just plain ice cream!
Frank Nash donated a delicious chocolate layer cake.
Accompanying all of that was the Chicago Popcorn mix!
Gary McNew, Vice President, led a discussion on the
subject of Pouches – what do you like and not like, can we
redesign it. Ideas were tossed around and finally we had a
somewhat split group, some favored the mesh pouches
with additional zippers and others favored solid pouches
with zipper pockets. Several members gave hints. Steve
and Amy Hamedl always use the mesh pouches with a
safety clip for rings (water hunters). Devin Stehr
suggested using the internet for ideas, especially the
forums. Michelle Renee said she really likes a three
pocket pouch and a mesh one for the water but here real
love in the water is a floating bait bucket.
Michelle Renee, Gem and Mineral Society of Palm
Beach extended the Society’s invitation to join them in
November at Florida Fairgrounds for their annual fantastic
showing of all things natural in stones, etc.
President, Frank Nash, spoke of the Sports event that
was held at the Fairgrounds in early August . Frank , Lori
and Jim Smith were the only club members working for
our club. Thanks go to you three!
He further related the possibility of an upcoming hunt
that could provide a good deal of money for the club,
details will follow on this issue at the September meeting.
John Lobota indicated that he had a machine that could
detect large amounts of cash.
Various really nice finds in the Best finds for the
month, competition is heating up for the Hunter of the
year award!
Jim Smith stumped everyone with a fishing rod spinner
handle! September Mystery Stumper will be provided by
Devon Stehr.
The 50/50 Raffle was won by Nina Smith – a total of
$23. Thanks go to Gage Tyler for his help with the
drawings for the Door Prizes and the 50/50 Raffle!
