VENICE YOUTH WRESTLING PROGRAM
- FREE INTRODUCTORY CLINIC - PROGRAM INFORMATION The Venice Youth Wrestling Program is hosting a FREE introductory clinic on November 4TH , 2017.
The clinic and our youth program are open to all Venice area elementary and middle school age boys
and girls. Our qualified Youth Program coaching staff along with VHS Wrestling Head Coach Pat Ryan
and his assistant coaches will be on hand. This clinic is designed with a mix of fun activities to
demonstrate the rules and fundamentals of wrestling.
We encourage all eligible area youth who may be interested in the sport of wrestling to attend this
fun and free clinic (lunch provided as well) and give wrestling a try! The Youth Program has been
around for almost 40 years. Striving for excellence on the mat and in the classroom, Venice Wrestling

Clinic:
When: Saturday, November 4, 2017 from 9am - 2pm.
Where: Venice High School wrestling room ( 1 Indian Ave, Venice, Fl 34285). The wrestling room is a
free-standing building near the football field - signs will be posted.
Registration: Parent/guardian information / sign-in required at the start of the clinic. No preregistration required.
Attire: Attendees should wear tennis shoes, shorts, and t-shirts
Curriculum / Lunch: Free pizza lunch & beverages provided on site to our attendees. Instruction /
activities consist of roughly two, 2 hour long blocks (with breaks) with a long lunch between.

Youth Wrestling Program Information:
Season Length: Begins November 6th and ends at Spring Break (end of March 2018). Tournament /
competition schedule TBD late October.
When: Practices start week of November 6th. Elementary school youth practice on Monday and
Wednesday, 6pm - 7pm. Middle school youth practice on Tuesday and Thursday, 6pm - 7:15pm.
Where: Practices are held in the Venice High School wrestling room
Youth Program Cost: The cost for the season is only $75. (An AAU membership is also required currently $14 annually)
Many of our high school wrestlers came from our youth program. The GPA’s of our high school
wrestlers are among the highest of all high school wrestling athletes in Florida with the varsity team
ranking 2ND by GPA in our district the last 3 years. All of our coaches demand good sportsmanship and
help athletes develop a positive winning attitude and work ethic. Nearly all of our coaches rose from
the ranks of the Venice Youth Program themselves to wrestle for Venice High School.

Elementary School Coaches:
* Brent Smallwood: Brent is a 2017 VHS graduate. He placed 2nd at the FHSAA State W restling
Tournament his senior year. Brent was also a team captain his senior year, received the team MVP
award, and holds numerous other award and records.
* Rob Peeler: Rob, who wrestled in high school in NY and a 2x state qualifier, is returning for his 4th
year as a youth coach.
Middle School Coaches:
* Bryce Balsinger: Bryce is a 2015 VHS graduate, served as team captain and was a 2 time recipient
of the team “Most Dedicated” award. Bryce is presently ranked 5th at VHS for career wrestling wins.
Bryce placed 4th at the FHSAA State Tournament. He is the younger brother of VHS Wrestling
Assistant Coach Devin Balsinger.
* Jacob Mathis: Jacob is a 2017 VHS graduate. As a VHS wrestler, he served as a team captain and
qualified to compete at the FHSAA State Tournament 3 times. He is also the 2017 Champion of the
prestigious Ippolito Tournament.
