Dr Anne-Marie Baird was awarded a PhD in Cancer Research from the Department of Clinical
Medicine, the University of Dublin, Trinity College in 2009. Her PhD thesis examined the role
of hypoxia and inflammation in lung carcinogenesis. Since then Anne-Marie has continued to
work in the lung cancer field and was awarded an International Association for the Study of
Lung Cancer (IASLC) fellowship in 2012. She moved to Queensland University of Technology
in 2014 to complete her fellowship and returned to Ireland in 2016. Anne-Marie is currently
a Research Fellow based at St. James’s Hospital, and holds Visiting Research Fellow status
with the University of Dublin, Trinity College and Queensland University of Technology. On a
personal level, Anne-Marie has also been affected by lung cancer, as both her Grandmother
and aunt died from the disease. Anne-Marie is involved in lung cancer awareness and patient
advocacy, and is an active member of the lung cancer social media (#LCSM) community. In
conjunction with Lung Cancer Alliance, she brought the first ‘Shine a Light on Lung Cancer’
event to Ireland last year during lung cancer awareness month.
