Provide your WWC number and expiry date to your employer or anyone you provide a child-related service
to, along with your full legal name and date of birth, so that your clearance can be verified online.
Keep your WWC number and expiry date in a safe place to be used for all your child-related work.
If you would like more information, go to http://www.kidsguardian.nsw.gov.au/check or you can contact
the Customer Service Team on (02) 9286 7219.
Important information about your Working with Children Check (WWCC) clearance:
This check is valid for 5 years and during this time is subject to ongoing monitoring for relevant new
records. It will be reassessed if you commit an offence or are subject to a workplace misconduct finding
that may bar you from working with children.
If your clearance is valid for unpaid (volunteer) work only, you must not engage in paid child-related work.
If you engage in paid work on a volunteer’s WWC number you may be committing an offence pursuant to
section 8 of the Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012 (the Act). Failure to comply is an offence
and may attract a penalty of $11,000, imprisonment for two years, or both.
It is an offence pursuant to section 9 of the Act for an employer to engage a worker that is not the holder
of a valid WWCC. Employers are required to verify online that you have a WWCC.
If you are self-employed you need to provide your WWC number to parents who can then verify your
WWC number using the Children’s Guardian’s online verification system. Verifying will demonstrate to
parents that you hold a valid WWCC and are not barred from providing your services to children.
