For the same poster class, we were
asked to choose a specific location in
Providence and make a poster for it.
My poster ended up being a kind of
conceptual rebranding effort for the
John Brown House, a historical monument to Rhode Island’s original aristocratic family.
The angle of this poster was to target
the youth. The deconstruction and
defacing of the image of the museum’s facade is meant to orient the
viewer and potential museum-goer to
the viewpoint of a social critic.

This poster was prompted by an assignment to make a poster inspired
by a manifesto of our choosing. I
chose the design theory I was writing
as part of the philosophising i was
doing in the designing of Skin2.
The writing on the poster is about
the perpetual cycle of life imitating
design and design imitating life. The
overarching point is that design omnipresence is a significant force in
the concretion of social roles.

This poster was inspired by an exhibition held in Poland this year to
celebrate 100 years of their independence. Because of this, all of the
posters revolved around the theme
of independence. While thinking
about my design for this poster, I really had to figure out what independence meant to me and what I would
want to put on a poster if it were going to be shown in Poland.
I thought about the Independence
day events and the white supremicist
marches and realized it was most important to highlight the need for safety and mutual respect for real independence to be achieved

In this poster for a dance performance, I wanted to capture the physicality described in the title of the
piece, tension, in the treatment of the
text itself.

WORK IN PROGRESS:
Early logo concepts and iterations
for a hypothetical rebranding of the
Air and Space Museum in Washington DC.
The final logo will be turned into a
system of graphic elements which
will work together to establish an
updated brand identity for the iconic museum and tourist destination.

Skin2 is the name of a concept collection I developed and executed
over the course of a semester.
Through designing these garments, I
sought to intertwine references to the
role that design plays in constructing
social hierarchies, the physical relationship between our clothing and
our bodies, and the historisicm involved in the subconcious processing of visual cues.
This is in part established by the reporpusing of iconic garments such
as the “wife-beater”, the white button-down shirt, and a basketball
team’s hoodie. Knods to cosplay emphasize the notion of clothing being
a denotation of ones role in society.
The graphics that I developed for
these pieces revolve around the
themes of historical narratives, the
notions of “high” and “low” design,
and signifiers of different social sectors.
