INEOS Public Advisory Group (PAG) Honored with Risk Communication Award On January 12, the INEOS Public Advisory Group (PAG) was honored by the Alliance for Chemical Safety, a local non-profit organization, for improving chemical safety in the Greater Cincinnati area. The Alliance annually honors local companies, organizations and individuals for risk reduction and risk communication efforts. The 10th annual awards ceremony took place at Cincinnati State Technical and Community College. The PAG was awarded a 2010 Risk Communication Excellence award for its long-time commitment to risk communication. In existence since 1989, the INEOS PAG is one of the longest running community advisory panels in the Greater Cincinnati area. The PAG currently serves as an advisory body to guide and direct INEOS ABS (USA) Corp. in Addyston, Ohio on decisions relative to environmental health and safety issues that affect the community. PAG members also serve as a liaison to the community. INEOS, formerly known by many names including Monsanto, Bayer, LANXESS and Lustran Polymers, manufactures various plastics used in health care, construction and automotive industries. The PAG is comprised of local elected officials, emergency responders, school representatives, plant management, regulators and numerous citizens. “The purpose of this group is to help us become a better neighbor in the communities we share with them” said Ken Schmidt, Environmental, Health & Safety Manager at the INEOS plant. “We do this by open, honest communication and not by holding our cards close to our vest. Each meeting we share with them the good and the bad about our environmental safety performance.” PAG members cite improved transparency and an increase in technical knowledge and understanding of plant operations. If you are interested in joining the PAG, or learning more about it, please contact third-party facilitator Deb Leonard at 513-515 -1041 or dleonard@eqm.com. MEMORIAL DAY PARADE TO CELEBRATE 90 CONTINUOUS YEARS OF HONORING THEIR VETERANS. Yes, it’s true that for 90 years the American Legion, Post 485 of Cleves, OH has paraded through Cleves and over to Maple Grove Cemetery to pay tribute to those soldiers who have made the ultimate sacrifice. This year to celebrate that anniversary, they are planning their biggest and best parade ever. There is going to be a red carpet recognition in the center of the parade route. Flags will be handed out to the people on the sidewalks. One hundred Antique cars will carry veterans that are residents, work, or are connected to Miami Township in any way, and all of our Taylor Alumni who are veterans, wherever they live. There are four ways you can help make this a memorable event and we invite you to do so. 1. If you wish to make a donation, to help fund this parade, send it to Howard P. Seaver, 7675 Bridgetown Rd. Cincinnati, OH 45248, Phone: 513-941-1643 2. If you have an antique street rod, muscle, or classic car, 30 years or older, that you would be willing to ride a veteran, call Ron Meister 513-941-0335 3. If you are a Veteran or active in any branch of service and would be able to ride that day, call Don Bennett 513-941-0290. All Veterans, passengers, and drivers will have magnetic signs with their name, branch of service, and years served. Be there that day on the sidewalk and show our Veterans that within the hills, rivers, and large valleys, the area we call home we are rich in history, religion, family, love and patriotism. The most common smoke detector by far is the ionization type detector. It is inexpensive and readily available. A group in Australia began studying smoke detectors and their impact on known fires. Their findings were very interesting. The ionization type detectors did not activate in a timely manner for the slow smoldering fires that were studied. This concerned the researchers so they ran some independent tests. The findings were that the ionization type detector did a very poor job of detecting the most common home fire, the smoldering type. They then tried a photoelectric type detector and had excellent results for the smoldering type fire. This prompted a recommendation to include the photoelectric type detector for the ultimate protection for homes. A total home protection includes a photoelectric detector that is near the kitchen (eliminates false trips), one in or near each bedroom. If you are adding detectors, you can mount a photoelectric next to your existing ionization detector. There is also a combination detector that has both types in one detector. If you have any questions you can call the Fire Department anytime. The number is 353-4026. Township Meeting Change Starting with the April 27th meeting, The Board of Trustees will meet at the new Miami Township Administration Building on Shady Lane near Bridgetown. Please note that the meeting will begin at 7:00 PM and not 7:30 PM.
