HDTech Monday at WWDC, Apple announced three new products: Mac OS X Lion, iOS 5, and iCloud, they’re new cloud service. Mac OS X Lion, iOS 5, and iCloud Announced WWDC ’11 - The Future of iOS and Mac OS X On Monday, Apple announced three new products at their annual WWDC event: Mac OS X Lion, iOS 5, and iCloud, their new cloud services. Mac OS X Lion will be available in July for $29 via the Mac App Store and will bring basically everything that was previewed in October such as Launchpad,an iOS-style Application launcher. Mission Control, bringing Spaces, Expose, and Dashboard together in one interface. Many other features will be included as well as UI tweaks. The next thing that was announced was iOS 5, the next version of iOS for Apple’s iPhones, iPads, and iPod touches. It will bring New iPhone? 2011? over 200 new features, such as a new notifications system, Twitter integration, improvements to Mail, Safari, Camera, and Game Center, as well as many other things. The big thing announced Monday, though, was iCloud, Apple’s new cloud services. It will allow for iDevices to be used without a computer needed to sync by automatically backing up the device to the cloud. It will also give you an email account, and iTunes in the cloud, which allows you to download your purchased content on up to 10 of your authorized devices. These services will be free, although Apple has introduced a service called iTunes Match for $25 a year which will do the same thing that iCloud does with your iTunes-purchased music with your own ripped music. iOS 5 and iCloud will be available in the fall, probably after their annual iPod event in September, which will also be when the new iPhone is most likely announced. Release Dates: Mac OS X Lion iOS 5 iCloud New iPhone July 2011 Fall 2011 Fall 2011 ??? Usually, Apple announces a new iPhone every year at WWDC each year. This year was different. No iPhone was announced or even mentioned at all on Monday’s event. Which means the rumor mill was correct. A new iPhone will most likely be announced this fall, possibly at their iPod event, just in time for the Holidays. Apple may be making September their iOS event, not just for iPods, which would make sense. Windows 8 was announced and unveiled by Microsoft at D9 last week Top 5 E3 Announcements Top 5 announcements made at E3 2011 5. Halo 4 Even though Halo: Reach was the last Halo game made by Bungie, another company has picked it up and will continue the series with Halo 4 and some 10th Anniversary Halo games 4. PlayStation 3D Display Sony unveiled a new 3D display for use with their PS3 console that will allow for 2 player simultaneous play without a split-screen. Windows 8 Announced Last week at D9 and Computex, Microsoft showed off Windows 8, the next major version of Windows. It introduces a new UI meant for touch-screens as well as ARM support, allowing for more portable, low power form factors that Windows can support. Another thing, there will be support for both native Windows apps as well as HTML5 & JavaScript webapps. They also made it clear that Windows 8 is just codename. Unfortunately there was no mention of pricing or availability. MineCraft Pocket MineCraft developer Mojang has shown off a version of MineCraft for Sony Ericsson’s Xperia Play named MineCraft Pocket. Engadget did a hands-on with it and it looks pretty solid and much like the original game. It will launch in Q3 of 2011 exclusively on the Xperia Play although an iOS version is in the works for later this year or early 2012. Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword Nintendo announced that Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword for the Wii is finally done and will be available this holiday season along with a surprise: an exclusive, limited edition gold Wiimote with a Tri-Force on it. Now that’s pretty cool. 3. MineCraft for Xbox Kinect The popular computer game by Mojang will now be ported to the Xbox 360 Kinect, unfortunately it won’t be by Mojang though, so we’ll see how it goes 2. PlayStation Vita Sony unveiled their new portable gaming console, previously named the NGP, the PlayStation Vita. It will feature a 5.2 inch touchscreen and will launch this fall 1.
