Scouseology [Noun] Scouseology is a documentary short investigating the development of the Liverpool (or Scouse) Dialect and the impact on the city, it’s residents and it’s culture. Using interviews with local Liverpudlians from different parts of the community, the film aims to create a detailed portrait of what it is to be a Scouser. 2. Scouseology discusses with interviewees how they believe the accent has influenced them personally and professionally. The film also discusses some of the negative aspects of being identified as a Scouser, such as the perceived aggressiveness of the accent and the occasional stereotypes of criminality that come with it. 1. From the Beatles to the three graces, Liverpool is a well renowned city thriving with life and culture. Its standing as a bustling port led the way for settlers of various nationalities bringing new languages to the city; imparting their characteristics on the development of modern Liverpool and it’s dialect. 3. Scouseology traces the ups and downs of owning a Liverpool accent whilst celebrating its individuality through highlighting its humour and the Scousers devotion to their city. Interviewees [Noun] Roger McGough CBE Sam Avery [Poet] [Comedian] 1. McGough grew up in Litherland, Liverpool and after leaving the city for university was soon back running arts events in and around the city. Avery actually grew up in Ormskirk but is still a proud Scouser. He gained a reputation in Liverpool as being ‘Able to spark the dullest of rooms into life with his warm, infectious humour and quick wit which makes him ideal as either an act or compere’ 2. In interviewing McGough we wanted to find out how the accent has influenced they way in which he writes and performs his poems as well as his opinions on the new generation and stereotypes of Liverpool. 2. Avery gave us an insight into the clever wit that comes with being a Scouser and explains how he is now trying to get away from using the typical stereotypes in his comedy routine.
