NUS 3 ON 3 BASKETBALL CHALLENGE 2012 RULES AND REGULATIONS Regarding the Competition:  NUS 3on3 Basketball Challenge is an annual competition organized by NUS Basketball Club, a Member Club of NUS Students’ Sports Club. This competition is open to the NUS community including students and staff. Please register in teams of 3-6. The competition is scheduled on 20th Oct, 2012, 9am to 3pm, at NUS SRC Basketball Court. (Details schedules will be announced at a later date)  SGD$200 cash prize will be awarded to the champion team. Trophies will be presented to the top two teams. Participation fee is $24 per team ($20 for members). Goodie bags and drinks will be given.  NUS Basketball Club reserves the right to make changes to the rules and schedules of the competition as appropriate.  Please visit our website for registration / past event photos / other club events at: http://nusbballclub.wix.com  Please direct any queries to nusbballclub@gmail.com Rules for the Competition: The following rules for NUS 3on3 Basketball Challenge 2012 are modified based on FIBA 3x3 rules. Regular basketball rules apply to all situations not specifically addressed in this document.  Each participating team should consist of 3-6 players, of whom three are on the court at any given time.  Substitutions are allowed when there is a deadball situation, beckoned by the court official.  The game is played on half of a regular basketball court, with one basket. Baskets scored outside the 3 point arc are counted as 3 points.  Immediately before the game, a player from one team attempts a three-point shot. If made, the shooter's team will have first possession. The other team will have the possession of the ball at the start of second half.   Games will be controlled by an official referee only, plus a scorer and a timer. This referee officiates mostly from the base line. Referee decisions are final.  The game is divided into two periods of 10 minutes each; with 2 minutes break in between. There is no stopping of game clock for deadball situations except for the last minute of the game. The team with the highest score wins, as in regular basketball. No timeouts are allowed at any time. (The officials may still stop the game in case of player injury or other dangerous situation, as in the standard FIBA rules.)  The ball will change possession after all made baskets,  The ball must be ‘checked’ at midpoint line after either team scores a basket. The player on the offensive team must pass the ball to a teammate after ‘checking’ before a shot can be taken.  If the defense gains possession of the ball within the two-point area, either by a steal or rebound, the team must first move the ball behind the three-point arc before being allowed to take a shot.  Shooting fouls results in free throws. All incidents of a technical foul, intentional foul or flagrant foul being called will result in two deadball foul shots awarded to the opposing team. The opposing team will also retain possession of the ball at midcourt regardless if the foul shots were made. Flagrant fouls come with and automatic ejection. At the discretion of the Game Official, the entire team may be disqualified for serious misconduct.  Total number of team fouls in each half will be counted. Any additional fouls committed after the 4th fourth team foul in each half results in two free throws by the opposition team, regardless of whether or not the foul made is a shooting foul. For Drawn Games after regulation time:  Stage 1: Three players from each team will compete in a shootout from the free throw line. One shot each, alternate shots.  Stage 2: If stage 1 results in a draw – the first to then miss on equal alternate shots shall lose. In this stage both teams will receive equal alternate shots.  In the event of a draw in a Grand Final, a 3 minute extra time period will be played. TEAM CAPTAIN’S Responsibilities:  Please ensure teammates are up-to-date on all rules and schedules.  Act as the sole voice for your team and keep control of all players.
