Our “refresh” starts with this new format – a combination of our annual Guide and quarterly magazine which will reflect what we’ve been up to and what we’re planning next! Reflecting on 2016 is a healthy place to start; we saw two fantastic new restaurants open, CAU and Zizzi, major event successes with Chocival (Birmingham’s first chocolate festival!) and recorded the highest number of people to ever visit Brindleyplace in a single day! We were also very proud of our fundraising total of £70,374. This year, there’s the opening of York’s Bakery Café at Ikon Gallery, as well as live music, markets and The Big Sleuth trail (thebigsleuth.co.uk) this summer. We’ll also be giving back to the community even more in 2017 with four Birmingham based charities working with us on our major events programme throughout the year – adding some exciting new ones along the way! Make sure you get the dates in your diary now – not only are our events free to attend, by working in collaboration with our fantastic charity partners they’ll be even bigger and better in 2017! LEISURE As well as a health club, lots of restaurants, bars and shops, we’re home to an 85 year old theatre, Ikon Gallery, a hotel, serviced apartments and the National SEA LIFE Centre, Branded Birmingham’s best experience for kids, the National SEA LIFE Centre has the UK’s only 360° Ocean Tunnel to transport you under the waves! Make the most of the Big Fish Little Fish mornings for under 5s and buy your tickets online to save up to 40%. The Crescent Theatre plays host to some brilliant productions this spring. We’ve handpicked some of our favourites here, but you’ll find the full programme at crescent-theatre.co.uk Agatha Christie’s Witness for the Prosecution 25 Feb-4 Mar Ella Celebrating 100 Years of Ella Fitzgerald 6 Mar Folkin’ Great 17 The theatre’s very own folk festival 23 Apr FOOD + DRINK York’s Bakery Café is now open at Ikon Gallery with a new look eating space and a brand new menu. The latest addition to our 27 bars, cafés and restaurants, York’s Bakery Café offers a range of craft beers, stone baked pizzas, and a sharing-plate selection of mezze and salads as well as York’s signature coffee (roasted right here in the city!), breakfast and brunch. DON’T FORGET To take advantage of the latest offers from York’s and the other bars, restaurants, cafés and attractions on Brindleyplace, visit brindleyplace.com or sign up for our loyalty card! brindleyplace.com/loyaltycard CHARITY UPDATE This year, all the funds raised at Brindleyplace in 2017 will go towards four brilliant Birmingham charities, all of which do a great deal to support local people and causes. Our annual Dragonboat Race, sponsored by Deutsche Bank, has a record breaking £100k target to raise vital funds for Cure Leukaemia in June while NICE, Centre for Movement Disorders is our Outdoor Film Festival partner. Adding some sugar and spice, Birmingham St. Mary’s Hospice is working with the newest addition to our event calendar, Chocival, and this year’s Chilli Festival will support Birmingham Children’s Hospital! Check out our website for other charity partner events too. BUSINESS BITES “I’ve been privileged to spend my twenties and half of my thirties working in the best business location in the city.
