Three steps, nothing to install
Upload your PDF
Drop the file you want to separate. Up to 100 MB.
The pages are extracted
Each page becomes a PDF of its own, numbered in reading order.
Download the archive
One .zip file holding every page. Your files are deleted afterwards.
Three situations it was made for
Sending one page out of forty
A scanned contract arrives as a single file. Split it, and send only the signature page instead of the whole document.
Filing a batch of scans
A scanner often produces one file for a whole stack of paper. Splitting gives you back one document per sheet, ready to be named and filed.
Reordering a document
Split, then merge again in the order you want. Two steps, no software to install.
What the tool actually does
One page, one file
The split is mechanical: page 1 becomes the first file, page 2 the second, and so on to the end. The files are numbered so that sorting them by name puts them back in reading order, which matters if you plan to merge them again afterwards.
Nothing is re-encoded
Each page is copied as it stands, with its text, its images and its fonts. A page whose text was selectable stays selectable, and nothing is compressed on the way through. The pages you get back are the pages you sent.
A protected document has to be opened first
A PDF locked with a password cannot be split as long as it is locked. Take the protection off first with the password removal tool, which needs the password you already hold.
Before you upload anything
Can I choose which pages to extract?
Not on this tool: the split covers the whole document and gives you every page. To keep only some of them, split first, then merge the pages you want with the merge tool.
In what order are the files?
In reading order, numbered so that sorting by name restores the original order of the document.
Is the quality of the pages preserved?
Yes. Each page is copied as it is, without being re-encoded or compressed. Selectable text stays selectable.
Is the tool free?
Yes. Splitting is free, with no sign-up and nothing to install. A free account also lets you keep your documents for the long run.
Is there a usage limit?
Files are accepted up to 100 MB. After about twenty jobs in a day from the same connection, the tool offers you a free account so you can carry on.
Are my files kept?
No. The file you send and the archive produced are deleted automatically once the job is done.
Where are my files processed?
On servers in France. Your data stays in the European Union, under the GDPR.
Do I need an account?
No, the tool works straight away. An account is what lets you keep, find and share your documents.
