What the tool actually does
A watermark marks the copy
It is drawn on the page, so it survives printing, sending and screenshots. It does not stop anybody from reading, copying or forwarding the document. What it does is make the status of the copy impossible to miss and impossible to deny.
Keep the clean original
The mark cannot be taken off afterwards: it is part of the pages now. Always mark a copy and keep the original untouched, or you will end up regenerating the document from scratch the day you need it clean.
Short reads better than exact
A diagonal mark is read at a glance, from across a desk, often upside down. Two words work. A sentence with a date and a case number does not, because nobody reads it and it covers the text underneath.
Before you upload anything
Can the watermark be removed?
Not by an ordinary reader: it is drawn into the pages. Keep your unmarked original rather than counting on removing it.
Does it cover the text?
The diagonal mark passes over it, in a light tint chosen so the document stays readable. The footer mark does not cover anything.
Can I mark only some pages?
Not from this tool. The mark goes on every page.
Can I use an image or a logo?
No. The mark is text, up to 60 characters.
Does it stop the document being copied?
No. It is a warning. Encryption or an account is what controls access.
Is the tool free?

Are my files kept?
